I took the free upgrade to win 10 since the total fuck up that was win 8, I'm not a tech of any sort so gladly paid for someone to set it all up properly and it works perfectly, my first machine came with win 95 and out of all the various systems since then 10 is the best imo.

SS, I have a couple of 10 year old PCs that worked a dream on XP professional for years, upgraded to 7 which is gash and crashes occasionally dependant to mood, seems to have settled now I've wiped my nob across the screen. Not bothered with the few extra bells and whistles with 10, would just buy a new PC or laptop preloaded if I needed it.

pretty computer literate, I built this one years ago, and have added extra RAM a few years back, but now that Chrome isn't supported in Vista anymore, and the way Vista just sucks up memory, I thought I'd update it to w 10.
Then, I thought I'd update it to w 7 first to see how that goes for her.

Your answer is simple Silver unless you are pretty computer literate do not risk it. My HP All in One was brand new when I upgraded it for free, I got some things fixed but in the end HP took some four or five hours to sort it and revert it back to 8.1! I know of people who have been trouble free but I also have a neighbour who purchased a brand new machine with W10 last year and it crashed all the time. John Lewis sent an engineer out and he was in his house for a couple of hours fixing it. The engineer just said "it;s Windows 1o"! I just dont have the interest to prat about with a PC for hours, I expect to switch it on and for it to work. Yes I am a pensioner by the way so it's all my own fault!

I have a relatively old laptop, nearly 4 years. I upgraded to 10 from 8 (free) and recently upgraded to Creators Upgrade or whatever it's called, also free. It's absolutely smooth, even on dated laptop. I use Macs for a lot of work (publishing) and that is generally better, but not for general " computing". Not at all.
I simply don't understand people who blame Microsoft for being "shit" . Weird. 10 is their best OS by miles, to me. And I now simply laugh at Apple's utter pistaking, price wise. Equivalent of "artisanal" fucking fries. Still just chips.

The issue is not what W10 does on a particular machine, but what you can't do about what it takes off (to sell on/snitch to the authorities).
Like facebulk it's only "free" insofar as you aren't paying for it with cash.

I know that mate. I'm talking about things like old PCI pro soundcards and wi-fi cards that are no longer supported.
Like I say, it's a bit unreasonable to think that's Microsoft's fault. In fact I'm surprised how many drivers they DO provide.

chim, Windows will supply generic drivers for most expansion cards but they can't do exclusive drivers unless they know the hardware code, you should have got a disk or somewhere to download specific drivers for add on cards

I guess if you've got an old PC full of expansion cards and XP drivers the onus is on you to find certain upgraded drivers, not Microsoft (who try to provide you with as many updated drivers as they can).
Come to think of it I had to chuck out an old network card when I upgraded but as the same functionality was built into my new motherboard it wasn't a problem.
I personally think Windows 10 is the best operating system I've ever used. I'm very glad that my Macbook Pro kept crashing whenever I tried to transcode video or anything that really pushed it. They might be good for people sitting in Starbucks browsing the internet and looking pleased with themselves but their power user-base are dwindling because it's very obvious they don't give a shit about them when they can make $300 straight profit from selling an iphone.

Exactly. Didn't upgrade any of my old machines as it was obvious from a little research that there were lots of people having problems with it on older machines.
On the new laptop I brought earlier this year, it's excellent.

Just because an OS doesn't work on a particular device does not mean that it is the OS that is full of bugs necessarily.
If I upgraded one of my shit old machines to W10 then I'd expect issues, so therefore I don't do that.

Was a total nightmare when I upgraded, failing internet connection, no sound, programmes stopped working, crashed regularly. If you have nothing better to do you can probably find work arounds for it all but that aint my job Microsoft released a product full of bugs! Got rid of it and reverted to 8.1.No intention of risking it again thanks!

I've bought loads of these for the office, they are sound. I resisted Windows 10 but it is much better and much more secure and once I've banged classic shell, which is free, on it it looks just like windows 7.
